The Hens

We have 16 hens who all lay eggs and currently we are getting around 9-12 eggs a day and that will triple in the spring and summer. They all free roam the 5 acres during the day and they put themselves up in the barn at night for me to tuck them in. They get feed daily to include corn, dried meal worms, dried black fly larva, kitchen scraps to include berries, plantains, apples, bread, cereal, etc. We also bake their egg shells, crush them and give them back to them mixed in their food for stronger shell productions. The calcium helps with good strong eggs! 3 of the hens (Cinnamon, Matilda and Ginger) came with the farm when we bought it. The other 13 came from a great friend who needed to downsize her flock of 130.
